There’s always something coming out the speakers in the Ticket Arena office, so we thought we’d share some of the sonic splendours that soundtrack all of our hard work. Now a weekly feature that brings a different artist to the fore each Thursday, the TA Mix Of The Week scours the vaults for some of our favourite sets of old and keeps a beady eye out for the classics of the future, serving up a taste of the artists that make us happy to do what we do.
It’s been an exciting few months for Nabihah Iqbal, who has relinquished her old alias of Throwing Shade, toured the world with shows as far away as Shanghai and Tokyo, and put the finishing touches to her debut album Weighing of the Heart, due for release on Friday 1st December. Clearly unafraid of taking on a busy lifestyle, Nabihah has also found the time to maintain a classy fortnightly residency on NTS, dealing in the spoils of years upon years spent meticulously studying music from all over the globe.
Having graduated from SOAS in an History and Ethnomusicology degree before going on to study in Cambridge, South Africa and then make her way back to London, Iqbal has a wider lens than your average DJ, as evidenced by the wealth of knowledge offered in this latest radio show. Bringing together hypnotic music from Nigeria with early Patrice Rushen, obscure disco and plenty more, the hour long mix is ceaselessly interesting, and takes its place as one of the most diverse mixes to have entered our Mix Of The Week ranks.
Nabihah plays at Motion for the Worldwide FM leg of In:Motion on Friday 24th November. She will line up alongside Gilles Peterson, Session Victim, Romare, Moxie and more in Bristol.
