There’s always something coming out the speakers in the Ticket Arena office, so we thought we’d share some of the sonic splendours that soundtrack all of our hard work. Now a weekly feature that brings a different artist to the fore each Thursday, the TA Mix Of The Week scours the vaults for some of our favourite sets of old and keeps a beady eye out for the classics of the future, serving up a taste of the artists that make us happy to do what we do.
Not too many MBEs feature in our Mix Of The Week series, but having devoted his life to feel good party tunes, Norman Jay has more than earned the accolade. Founder of the Good Times soundsystem and party, Jay was invited into the Mixmag Lab last week to show off a few of the spoils of decades spent searching out the best in dancefloor magic. Best known for championing acid jazz, disco, soul and rare groove among other scenes, Norman used his trip to the London lab to show off an hour of house selections, and it’s fair to say house music doesn’t get much more uplifting than this. Whether you’re wearing headphones or dancing shoes, here’s a little a treat.
Norman Jay plays at House of Common on Monday 28th August, alongside the likes of Slaves, De La Soul, Soul II Soul and David Rodigan. The August bank holiday day festival, which is curated by ska legends Madness, takes place at Clapham Common.
