There’s always something coming out the speakers in the Ticket Arena office, so we thought we’d share some of the sonic splendours that soundtrack all of our hard work. Now a weekly feature that brings a different artist to the fore each Thursday, the TA Mix Of The Week scours the vaults for some of our favourite sets of old and keeps a beady eye out for the classics of the future, serving up a taste of the artists that make us happy to do what we do.
Optimo are an unpredictable pair, and if there was any mix that would secure that statement, their recent residency for NTS Radio is just that. While JG Wilkes takes on the first hour, providing not only tracks from film and television - including Julee Cruise’s ethereal Twin Peaks single ‘Floating’, as well as sounds from Geinoh Yamashirogumi and Signe Dahlgreen to name but a few - there’s also the inclusion of the more obscure cuts of house and electro from the likes of Space Dimension Controller. Wilke’s commentary throughout provides some thoughts and feelings on each piece, truly allowing the listener to become involved and intrigued with his selections. The second sector of this eclectic mix sees JD Twitch mix the likes of new wave with some punk-influenced sound, with artist’s like Gary Numan taking up a deserved slot, intertwined with Marie Davidson’s new track ‘So Right’. The Glaswegian duo have succeeded in showcasing their versatile tastes in this two hour journey through some of their favoured plays.
Optimo will be heading to Terminal V’s massive Halloween bash in Edinburgh on Saturday 27th October, alongside The Black Madonna, Moodymann, Len Faki, Eats Everything, Robert Hood and more.
