There’s always something coming out the speakers in the Ticket Arena office, so we thought we’d share some of the sonic splendours that soundtrack all of our hard work. Now a weekly feature that brings a different artist to the fore each Thursday, the TA Mix Of The Week scours the vaults for some of our favourite sets of old and keeps a beady eye out for the classics of the future, serving up a taste of the artists that make us happy to do what we do.
Few names in the minimal game come with more weight than the Scrabble golden chalice that is Ricardo Villalobos, but one that’s often found alongside it is that of Raresh, Rick’s Romanian brother in arms. Both packing stripped down techy weirdness for days, months, weeks and years, the two are an enchanting prospect back to back, with constant curveballs and enough trippy transients to send you so far West that you come out East of where you started. Party animals through and through, Raresh and Ricardo are known to be at their best when things are getting weird in the late morning, and this mix from a private afters in Bucharest is testament to that. Now over ten years old, the recording is still as mysterious as the day that it first spilled out from the bubbling microhouse cauldron.
With summer festival announcements coming in the next few weeks you can expect both artists to be in the news again, but for the time being it’s Raresh that has caught our gaze. He’s playing at Manchester’s Hidden on Friday 3rd February and then heading to Leeds for system.’s 9th birthday on Saturday 4th, where he’ll play alongside Praslea as Praslesh. With Scuba and Praslea also performing in Manchester and the sensational Nicolas Lutz on the bill at MiNT Club, both nights are looking far too hot to handle.
