There’s always something coming out the speakers in the Ticket Arena office, so we thought we’d share some of the sonic splendours that soundtrack all of our hard work. Returning as a weekly feature after a little while away, the TA Mix Of The Week scours the vaults for some of our favourite sets of old and keeps a beady eye out for the classics of the future, serving up a taste of the artists that make us happy to do what we do.
Techno tends to dominate the musical offerings of Amsterdam’s Dekmantel festival, but often it the curveballs thrown in are the ones to leave the most significant impression. Chicago’s Sadar Bahar is one such curveball, his superb combination of rare groove, disco, funk and soul standing out as one of the best sets of the weekend as he took to the stage for Boiler Room last August. Skipping through priceless records and never failing to select the absolute perfect track, Bahar used his first Boiler Room mix to show off some glorious music from the archives of his unbelievably vast collection, with Greg Henderson, The Police, Jackie Beavers, Funkapolitan and Minako among them. The result is one of the grooviest sets you’re likely to hear, Sadar having pulled out nothing but absolute killer as he got the crowd ready for the festival’s final day, and so we’re more than happy to take this opportunity to relive that glorious hour thirty five for this week’s Mix Of The Week.
Anyone who watches this video will be left desperate to see the Chicago resident play out at the next opportunity, and for anyone based in Leeds that opportunity will come on Saturday 19th November, when he plays all night long at HiFi Club. Taking to the underground soul club as part of the One Night With… series, he’ll be greeted with a hero’s welcome by a crowd that are always clued up and locked in when the big-hitters come to town.
