There’s always something coming out the speakers in the Ticket Arena office, so we thought we’d share some of the sonic splendours that soundtrack all of our hard work. Now a weekly feature that brings a different artist to the fore each Thursday, the TA Mix Of The Week scours the vaults for some of our favourite sets of old and keeps a beady eye out for the classics of the future, serving up a taste of the artists that make us happy to do what we do.
NTS know how to score a significant coup, and they did it again last week as they coaxed Sampha into the studio. The heartthrob crooner is best known for his soulful vocals, which first came to prominence for their appearance on SBTRKT's "Hold On" long before Sampha's debut LP dropped last year, but clearly he's pretty handy behind the decks as well, with selections across a broad array of genres showing off his eclectic tastes. Skipping through bits of grime and into Dopplereffekt techno, breezy tunes of his own and some beautiful jazz numbers, the South Londoner brought a lovely hour of intricate sounds to the airwaves, with Takuya Matsumoto's "Be" among the standout tracks.
To see Sampha doing what he does best, you can head to Leeds in May for World Island, where he performs live alongside the likes of Loyle Carner and Ibibio Sound Machine. He will also play at Parklife in June, at Manchester's Heaton Park.
