There’s always something coming out the speakers in the Ticket Arena office, so we thought we’d share some of the sonic splendours that soundtrack all of our hard work. Now a weekly feature that brings a different artist to the fore each Thursday, the TA Mix Of The Week scours the vaults for some of our favourite sets of old and keeps a beady eye out for the classics of the future, serving up a taste of the artists that make us happy to do what we do.
This week’s MOTW comes from the Mixmag Lab, where Scuba and Or:la led a Hotflush Recordings takeover to bring 100 minutes of back catalogue fire to the magazine’s weekly office party. Showing off a barrage of bangers from the label’s back catalogue, Hotflush boss Paul Rose aka Scuba and recent signing Or:la dipped their toes into the dubstep of old as well as some of the more fearsome techno that Paul Woolford, Dense & Pika and more have delivered for the label over the years. Featuring tracks that you might not have heard for a good few years, including ones by Mount Kimbie, Joy Orbison, Untold and Pangaea, the pair’s mix is a welcome reminder that the it doesn’t have to be brand new to sound super fresh.
Or:la is playing at the Common People double header over the May Bank Holiday weekend, with Saturday spent at Southampton Common and Sunday at South Park in Oxford. She’ll then be heading to Farr Festival at Bygrave Woods in Hertfordshire from Thursday 13th to Sunday 16th July. Scuba, meanwhile, plays in Liverpool for the fifth ENRG night at Invisible Wind Factory, which will be held on Saturday 6th May. Next up, he will be spotted in Bristol on Saturday 3rd June, when he steps out for the Shapes & Boogie Nights Summer Show.
