There’s always something coming out the speakers in the Ticket Arena office, so we thought we’d share some of the sonic splendours that soundtrack all of our hard work. Now a weekly feature that brings a different artist to the fore each Thursday, the TA Mix Of The Week scours the vaults for some of our favourite sets of old and keeps a beady eye out for the classics of the future, serving up a taste of the artists that make us happy to do what we do.
Few mix series hold more prestige than the BBC Essential Mix, and so it’s fitting that Butterz trio TQD have now been given their go at delivering an instalment. One of the most influential groups in the recent resurgence of UK garage and grime in mainstream dance music, TQD have been reminding a generation of its 2-step roots, taking us back to the days when garage bangers rather than filtered deep house was the main underground-chart crossover.
Pop was always better when floating on swung beats, and though UKG might have gone away for a few years in the late noughties, it’s certainly back with a vengeance now. Skipping merrily through wobbly bass infused stompers by the likes of MJ Cole, Champion and more, Royal-T, DJ Q and Flava D masterminded two hours of urban litness to make them a firm favourite in our Mix Of The Week catalogue, which they enter for a second time.
TQD play plenty of shows over the next month, starting off in Croatia for Outlook this weekend before sending forth DJ Q for an all night slot at Leicester’s 2 Funky Music Cafe. The trio then reunite for Boundary Brighton at the end of September, and take to Bristol’s Motion on Friday 6th October.
