There’s always something coming out the speakers in the Ticket Arena office, so we thought we’d share some of the sonic splendours that soundtrack all of our hard work. Now a weekly feature that brings a different artist to the fore each Thursday, the TA Mix Of The Week scours the vaults for some of our favourite sets of old and keeps a beady eye out for the classics of the future, serving up a taste of the artists that make us happy to do what we do.
Grime’s rise to the top of the UK charts has brought with it a renewed fondness for the old school, with dubstep and garage once again starting to assert themselves as mainstays in the nation’s clubs. With UKG coming back strong, we had a long hard think about who deserves the credit, so it would be hard to overlook the trio of bass bringers TQD for this week’s MOTW.
Royal T, DJ Q and Flava D have been tearing it up for a fair old while as lone rangers, but coming together they’ve created something that’s more than just the sum of its parts. Leading the way in giving the party back to the garage generation, the trio’s aptitude for selecting proper party bangers and smashing them together with EZ-style quick mixing is easy to see in this set from last May, so have a look if you want a little bit of the good stuff for your party this weekend.
It shouldn’t be hard to catch one, two or maybe even all three of Royal T, DJ Q or Flava D before the year is out, as the trio now find themselves playing out on a pretty regular basis. They’ll line up together for a few festivals abroad, with Lost & Found, Hideout and Outlook all appearing in their shared diary, whilst Flava D also has a set at SF17 in Sheffield this April around the same time that DJ Q plays with SASASASat Bristol’s Motion. Before all of that though, February sees Butterz shows in Brighton and Bristol, with Royal T appearing at the former on Saturday 18th exactly a week before joining Flava D on the lineup at Motion on Saturday 25th.
