There’s always something coming out the speakers in the Ticket Arena office, so we thought we’d share some of the sonic splendours that soundtrack all of our hard work. Now a weekly feature that brings a different artist to the fore each Thursday, the TA Mix Of The Week scours the vaults for some of our favourite sets of old and keeps a beady eye out for the classics of the future, serving up a taste of the artists that make us happy to do what we do.
There aren’t too many A-league DJs that can sing as well as they mix, but Virginia is one of them. The Bavarian selector enjoyed a flurry of hit singles in the late 90s, quickly turning her attention to the decks and earning herself a reputation as one of the brightest talents in her adopted home of Berlin. Dedicated to her art and with an ear for only the most interesting sounds whether house, techno or further from the city’s dance music norms, Virginia was accepted with open arms into the ranks of the prestigious Ostgut Ton and Panorama Bar family, confirming her as one of the brightest talents in the city.
Taking to Amsterdam’s Red Light Radio on Saturday, she spun a web of ambient soundscapes, chilled out house and tight grooves, venturing into uplifting tracks by the likes of A Band Called Flash and workout tracks by Nocow and Thee J Johanz. With choppy drums, acid madness and euphoric synthlines thrown in for good measure, the ADE mix is a good intro to the sonic palette of a wonderful DJ, and as such a worthy winner of our Mix Of The Week badge.
Virginia plays at Bristol’s In:Motion for the Just Jack Halloween takeover on Saturday 28th October. Fellow Panorama Bar resident Steffi also appears, as do DJ Harvey, Young Marco and more.
