New Year’s Guide 2018: South

New Year’s Guide 2018: South

Andrew Kemp | Features & Interviews

They’re a pretty big deal, aren’t they, those new year’s parties? Bearing the weight of the world’s hopes on its shoulders, the new year enters with the responsibility of setting the tone for the next twelve months, so it needs to be done properly. No cutting corners allowed at times like these; the new year is the time to go all out in celebration, so choosing the perfect night out is a good way to start. With no shortage of choice in the South thanks to a plentitude of parties in Bristol, Brighton, Oxford and Bournemouth, you can do worse than to read our guide and work out which shindig has your name on.

Fancy spending New Year’s in London? Check our dedicated guide to NYE and NYD parties in the capital.

SuperCharged NYE
Concorde 2
Where else but Concorde 2 for the SuperCharged party? The seaside venue is a favourite spot of Brighton’s strong bass music contingent, and has been a regular home to SuperCharged since they first started bringing the finest drum and bass, grime and more to town. With My Nu Leng, Barely Legal and Bushbaby providing the tunes, things will be getting tasty.

NYE 2017 / Glitz & Glam
Jack Da Beat takes on DJing duties at this swag party down South. Glitter, confetti, lasers and other adornments come as standard with Glitz & Glam, so you can expect high-end production for their biggest night of the year.

Kisstory NYE
The end of a year is a time for reflection, so this throwback party couldn’t be better timed. Think Fresh Prince and those nineties and noughties memories and you’re on the right track, with Kiss FM DJs Swerve & Pioneer joining special guest Scott Garcia in providing the nostalgic bangers. If old skool and anthems are your bag then this is one for you.

Top of the Pop Con - NYE Fancy Dress Party 2017
Dress up as your favourite pop star and head on down to Thekla for everything from 70s and 80s disco through to this year’s pop sensations. The biggest hits from across the decades combined with prizes for fancy dress will be more than enough to get Thekla popping.

In:Motion/Elrow; From Lost to the River (NYE)
It won’t surprise anyone that this one sold like hotcakes, with Spanish dancefloor infiltrators elrow always sure to draw a crowd. So popular was it, in fact, that they’ve decided to do it all over again at Motion the very next day...

In:Motion NYD/Elrow; From Lost to the River
Also selling at breakneck speeds, the recently added NYD elrow session at Motion looks equally tantalising. Groove Armada, Steve Lawler, Catz ‘n Dogz, Bushwacka! and more will be in attendance, with a special headline guest still to be announced.

Junkyard Golf
Junkyard Golf Club Oxford
If going out isn’t your cup of tea, why not pop in for a couple of rounds of crazy golf instead? A raging success in both Manchester and London, this reclaimed and recycled course has proven equally popular in new location Oxford, and offers a New Year’s Eve outing that won’t make leave you sore-headed when you wake up in 2018 for the first time.

One Nation NYE 2017
O2 Academy Bournemouth
Drum and bass hits Bournemouth hard thanks to One Nation, who bring SaSaSaS, Drumsound & Bassline Smith, Majistrate, Sub Zero, Ultrah and more to O2 Academy.
