Top Picks: Early May Bank Holiday Weekend


The first of two Bank Holidays Weekends we are blessed with over the next month is fast approaching. Each of the days from the 29th April to 1st May comes with a multitude of musical treats, scattered up and down the country. As always, we are on hand to help pick out some of the top events over the course of the weekend. Feast your eyes.

Friday 29th April

Mac Miller
O2 Ritz, Manchester
Mac Miller from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania has been one of the most accomplished rappers of the past decade. After a debut album that hit the number one spot on the Billboard 200 and working with the likes of Pharrell Williams and Odd Future, he now has his own label signed to Warner and another high flying album, GO:OD AM, which was release at the back end of last year. Here he will be playing at Manchester’s O2 Ritz as part of his newly announced European Tour. 

Bugged Out
XOYO, London

XOYO’s bank holiday line-ups are always impressive, with their Friday instalment being no different. Here the Shoreditch club welcomes Bugged Out who have recruited Circo Loco resident Ellen Allien to headline proceedings. Ellen’s hypnotic and moody techno will be complemented by the sharp garage house sounds of young gun Ejeca and Rachel Lyn.

Nightvision series closing party
The Liquid Rooms, Edinburgh
Nightvision’s latest series comes to one hell of a climax on Bank Holiday Friday, as two of dance music’s most respected DJs come in to play through the night. The Liquid Rooms, which has been a regular haunt for the Nightvision series, will play host to Hot Creations spearhead Jamie Jones and Drumcode boss Adam Beyer. Expect high-octane grooves and heavier spice as the night heads to a close.

Selective Hearing - Randomer & Tessela
Buyers Club, Liverpool
The Leeds and Manchester based party has just come of the back of their most recent knees up with Tom Trago and is quick to follow it up with another blinder in Liverpool, the newest city the club night will be beginning to conquer. Here, two techno heavyweights in Randomer and Tessela will be playing a mammoth 4-hour back to back, joined by Harry Sheehan and residents.

MK Presents Area 10
The Rainbow Venues, Birmingham
MK has been hosting his Area 10 parties for a couple of years now, with this return to Birmingham coming after he hosted a stage at a festival in the city last year. This time round MK will be returning with another line up of fresh talent that includes Camelphat and Eli & Fur. Te party will be taking place at The Rainbow Venues’ spacious warehouse venue, The Textile Factory.

High Focus Records
HiFi, Leeds
High Focus Records is the UK hip-hop label with a roster unrivalled by any other imprint in the country. A number of the artists from the label will be playing at HiFi in Leeds on Bank Holiday Friday, including Ocean Wisdom, Fliptrix, Edward Scissortongue, Onoe Caponoe and more. Made In Leeds Festival
The Tetley, Leeds
It sure is a big weekend for Leeds as the city will also be hosting the Made In Leeds Festival at The Tetley in the city centre on the Saturday. Here, we will see 5 stages hosted by the likes of legendary Leeds institution Back To Basics, Fibre, Federation, Insomnia and Tidy Music. Richy Ahmed, Denney, Flava D, DJ Q, Tristan da Cunha and much more will be appearing.

Tiga + More
XOYO, London
After Friday nights madness, XOYO will be straight back in business on Saturday night, this time joined by disco come acid house deviant Tiga, Hot Creations staple Patrick Topping and also the head honcho of the French Express record label, Jonas Rathsman. Non stop niceness at XOYO this bank holiday weekend.

Landed Presents: Annie Mac
Dickens World, Kent
Chatham in Kent will be hosting Radio 1’s first lady on Bank Holiday Saturday. Annie Mac, who hosts the weekly Friday night residency on Radio 1 has been all over the world in recent months on tour dates and at her own curated festival Lost & Found in Malta. Here, she will be back in the UK playing at Dickens World for Landed

SubDub 18th Birthday Weekender Part 2
Leeds West Indian Centre
SubDub will be continuing it’s birthday celebrations come Outlook launch on the Saturday with another two rooms of dub and jungle. This second part will also see the party hooking up with Deep Medi, who are celebrating 10 years this year. Playing throughout the night will be the likes of Mala, Kahn, Kaju, Jack Sparrow, Tunnidge, Silkie, Kenny Ken, Benton, Loefah and much more.  


Sanction - Chris Lorenzo & More
Gorilla, Manchester
Expect everything garage, house and everything in between as Chris Lorenzo headlines Sanction at Gorilla in Manchester. He will be joined by GotSome, Tom Zanetti, Ko Kane, Lee Drake and Matt Wigman.

DJ MAG Sessions - Objektivity 
Egg, London
Egg in London will be welcoming Dennis Ferrer’s Objektivity label for a night of top quality house and techno on the Saturday. The spearhead of the label will be headlining alongside Andre Hommen, Lauren Lo Sung, Blackhall and Bookless and also Circo Loco’s crowning jewel, Tania Vulcano. The music will be going right through until 9am.

Live at Leeds 2016
Various Venues, Leeds
Live at Leeds is one of the biggest music events on the music calendar in the city. Venues all over Leeds will be taking part in this festival and there will be a long line of bands, solo artists and more performing at each. Local talent such as Corinne Bailey Rae will be playing alongside the likes of Jess Glynne, Mystery Jets, Circa Waves, Ghostpoet and Los Campensinos. Click here for the full line up.

XOYO will be up and running for the third night in a row on the Sunday of Early May Bank Holiday. There’s no rest for the wicked at The Street’s Mike Skinner falls in for a performance.

Portal Presents Do Not Sleep
The Rainbow Venues, Birmingham
Darius Syrossian’s Do Not Sleep, which enjoyed a hugely successful season in Ibiza last year, is coming to The Rainbow Venues on Bank Holiday Sunday, Darius will be joined by Paco Osuna, Hector Couto and Nathan Barato.

System & Set One Twenty Terrace Party
Mint Warehouse, Leeds
The first meeting between Set One Twenty and System of the year and it’s a big one. The two staple terrace party hosts in the city will be welcoming the powerhouse French trio Apollonia as well as B.Traits and Fuse resident Archie Hamilton. Residents and local talent will be doing the duties in rooms 2 and 3.
