Festival season is well underway and with school summer holidays fast approaching, arranging childcare for a weekend can be a logistical nightmare; besides, why should the little’uns miss out on some fantastically fun events? Especially when there are so many exciting happenings flying the family friendly flag. Here are our top picks for the coming weeks.
Sunday 16th July
Victoria Park, Tower Hamlets, London
Taking place in London’s Victoria Park, a UK festival exclusive performance from indie favourites Foals takes a headline slot for this year’s day event. On top of that, they’ve got Wild Beasts, Laura Marling, and Bonobo on the Main Stage as well as an abundance of exciting acts across the festival site. To keep the minds of the little ones occupied there’s loads on offer including theatre performances and storytelling, and to guarantee a quiet journey home, there’s also sports and games to get involved with plus the Hackney Playbus kids area to tucker them out.
Sunday 23rd July
Last Days of Shoreditch, London
It can be 'tricky' to keep the kids occupied and entertained during the summer holidays, but following the success of last year's debuting event, FUN DMC returns to Last Days of Shoreditch for a full day celebration of all things hip hop. Expect dancing and fun for both parents and their super cool kids with live DJs, a giant slide, food stalls, hip hop themed fancy dress, graffiti and more. Whether you're a rapping novice or pro bar spitter, this is the perfect day for those of you trying to raise the next Eve or Jay Z!
Thursday 27th - Monday 31st July
Lulworth Castle & Park, East Lulworth
Camp Bestival not only allows adults to indulge in their inner child with a fancy dress theme each year (expect to see KISS face paint and Madonna wigs as the theme is Pop Stars and Rock Stars this July), but their family friendly attitude allows children to join in the fun. As well as performances from the likes of Madness and Mark Ronson, child friendly entertainment comes in the form of appearances from television’s Mr Tumble, Dick and Dom, Mister Maker and more.

Thursday 3rd-Sunday 6th August
Cornbury Park, Chipping Norton
Wilderness Festival not only offers a great lineup of Grace Jones, Two Door Cinema Club, Bonobo and more, but it also offers Family Camping with baby changing facilities and family welfare. An area of the site solely dedicated to kids which includes crafty workshops and theatre entertainment can keep your young company happy, and there’s also opportunity for the adults to play as Mortimer Nannies offer childcare on site.
StrEat Food & Family Fun Festival 2017 Yorkshire
Friday 22nd - Sunday 24th September
Newby Hall and Gardens, Ripon
Promising family fun on a September weekend is the StrEat Food Festival in Ripon, Yorkshire. With quirky performers, live music and some of the best food stalls around, you’ll be spoilt for choice on how to keep the little tikes entertained. This year’s event will also offer screenings of family favourite nostalgic movies such as Back To The Future and The Jungle Book, which is fun for both adults and kids alike!
