Widely known as one of, if not the most vibrant festival in Croatia, Hideout boasts the most extravagant of line-ups. Set on the serene Zrce Beach, this event not only stands out because of the stunning location, with views of the crystal-clear Adriatic Sea and striking mountain landscapes, but it is also the amount of musical entertainment on offer. Most festivals are set across one weekend but Hideout runs for five days, providing the most gargantuan fix for electronic music lovers. 150 artists travel to the Southeast corner of Europe each summer, ready to provide the biggest party, whether that be in a pool, on one of the beachfront stages or one of the many intimate boat parties.
When you have been making such an impression on house music for the past three decades then it is clear to see why Kerri Chandler is one of the eternal icons of the scene. Being surrounded by soul, disco and garage from the age of thirteen the American has consistently made records which reflect those styles, whilst maintaining an overwhelming sense of originality with each production. If you want to be taken on a wondrous tour of house to accompany the idyllic setting then there couldn’t be a better guide than Kerri Chandler.
Ever since an unexpected headline slot at Es Paradis during a summer in Ibiza eight years ago Hannah Wants has enjoyed a meteoric rise in the world of house and bass. The Birmingham born artist has taken her bold and punchy style all around the world, introducing ‘What Hannah Wants’ which focuses on creating the best possible rave. Being able to captivate such a big following at home and abroad is a sure sign of her standing in the scene and a great excuse to check out her Hideout performance.
Within just a few years this Bournemouth born artist has gone from selling records on Myspace to headlining festivals around the world, cementing herself as one of the most exciting bass music producers. Standing out in such a congested environment is key for any artist and Flava D did this by making music which comprised a sumptuous blend of garage, grime and bassline. If you make the wise decision to watch Flava D in action, be prepared for a supercharged performance, which will give you plenty of smooth garage as well as the harder bass sound, designed for the clubs.
Chase & Status
Regarded as true drum n bass royalty, Chase & Status have been one of the most successful groups at creating the type of music which bridges the underground and more commercial styles with aplomb. The English duo know what sort of records will send an entire festival into a state of pandemonium whilst they also more than capable of crafting tracks, which are better suited for that after party atmosphere. Performing the most dynamic live show has become the norm but they are also musical geniuses behind the turntables, which is why they should be at the top of your to do list whilst in Croatia.
Techno music has developed a reputation for cultivating the cold and industrial sounds over the years. Rather than conform, Jamie Jones brought a fresh and left-field take on the genre, making music which centred on melodic structures whilst oozing a real warmth. Introducing a completely revolutionary style and deciding to craft a sound which was so far removed from minimal techno is a big reason why the Welshman is regarded as one of the most innovative artists to grace the genre. Whether it is a scintillating live show or a masterful DJ set this is one act you can’t afford to miss if you are a techno lover.
Hideout Festival takes over Zrce Beach in Croatia’s Novalja from Monday 25th to Saturday 30th June.
