Aren’t we lucky that this beautiful month of May we’re having offers two bank holiday weekends?! That’s two three-day weekends and two opportunities for some serious partying and good vibes! Down South, there’s a lot on offer, whether you’re in Bristol, Southampton, London or further afield from the capital - the Southern section of the UK has got some special things signalling your entry into the summer. With Motion in Bristol inviting Idris Elba to complete a DJ set, Common People Southampton being treating to a headline set from pop songstress Lily Allen, and London’s fabric hosting a Garage takeover - you won’t be short of things to fill these three days.

Britrock Must Be Destroyed

Pop down to Motion in Bristol and get ready to be transported back into the mad world of mid-90s British rock. This special rock ‘n’ roll show will feature rock legends Reef, who are best known for the popular indie anthem “Place Your Hands”. They will be joined on the night with support from The Wildhearts, Terrorvision and Dodgy. Expect loud guitars, catchy riffs and an epic battle for the crowd’s attention between these four awesome bands.

With a sound that is tough to pigeonhole, Manchester-based Ruf Dug will be bringing his years of experience as a world-class DJ to Motion as Nebula hosts the opening party of the club’s newest canal-side event space, Lock Yard. The original tropical cyberpunk DJ set will include tracks of the dirtiest cassette techno through to tropical island beats, so there is no limit to how wild this party could get!

Set in the beautiful residency of Oxford’s own South Park, this weekend festival for all the family shares a similar attitude towards diversity for all genres as its popular parent festival, Bestival. The Saturday lineup will be headlined by The Jacksons - who bring their classic Motown sound to the Main Stage - as well as The New Power Generation, who found success performing as the late Prince’s legendary backing band between 1990 to 2013. Sunday then takes a turn to the former night’s entertainment with a celebration of British rock music, featuring the talents of James and Ride. Enjoy the bank holiday with great music in the sun the right way!

Located in Southampton Common - a large open space to the north of the city centre of Southampton - expect a range of fun-filled entertainment and activities for this two-day family festival. Saturday will feature the likes of Britpop princess Lily Allen, Manchester-based rock band James and pop girl group All Saints. There is also a little something for everyone at this weekend-long event, as Sunday’s lineup will include legends The Jacksons and The New Power Generation, who, along with a list of more incredible acts, will be taking to the Main Stage with their funky, upbeat rhythms for people of all ages to enjoy.

Critical Sound BBQ - Summer Sonics

Critical Sound is a daytime festival based in Greenwich, London that will be taking over Studio 338 on the Saturday of the Bank Holiday weekend. Featuring three rooms and over 30 acts, the result is a summer party that is definitely going to be the talk of the town - specifically the people of South East London. The Critical Sound room will include the jungle vibes of Brazil’s DJ Marky, Critical Music’s very own Kasra, DnB DJ Emperor, and many more. The second room - S.P.Y Presents Dubplate Style - is a curation of acts headed by the man himself, with support coming from DJ sets from Dillinja, Bladerunner, Krust and many many more. The third room will be headlined by Hyroglifics and also includes DJ sets from Synth Ethnics, Was A Be, Survey, as well as a number of other emerging acts.

Creamfields Presents Steel Yard London

Journey to The Steel Yard - a colossal 15,000 capacity superstructure - over the late-May Bank Holiday weekend in Finsbury Park for a lineup of international acts, including DJ sets from two of the world’s biggest electronic acts: Tiësto and Above & Beyond. The weekend’s lineup will also feature Swedish House Mafia’s Steve Angello, Faithless, Eli & Fur, and many more acts over the span of this two-day event in the festival calendar.

Get Rich or Die Tryin': The 15th Anniversary Rendition

With over 15 million album copies sold in its first year, 2018 marks the 15th anniversary of 50 Cent’s debut album, Get Rich or Die Tryin’. To celebrate this milestone, XOYO in London will be hosting a one-night only showcase in the form of a live orchestration that will be exclusively performing an interpretation of the rapper’s best-selling album with a classical twist.

Bristol’s Motion will be hosting the highly-anticipated Love Saves the Night after parties following from Love Saves The Day. The Saturday lineup features in-demand Glasgow DJ Jackmaster and dance music veteran Artwork, as well as the Trinidadian Soca rhythms with heavy basslines of Jus Now, and Bristol-based duo My Nu Leng. The second night of after parties will consists of acts from the likes of Yorkshire-based DJ & producer Hot Since 82, P3 Guld award-winning Swedish DJ La Fleur, Hospital Record’s High Contrast, Lenzman, and a great deal more to discover over the two nights.
