Top Picks: May Bank Holiday Weekend 2018

A bank holiday means one thing and one thing only - a huge list of events to occupy it. With three more bank holidays in the year, the chance to plan an experience or head to a party has never been more rife, so to help you decide, we’ve compiled a huge list of events to help you occupy the next one. We took a look at what’s on offer both in the North and South, with Manchester, Leeds, London, Bristol, even as far as Malta and more all offering some exciting things for the three-day introduction into spring. From a chilled out festival dedicated to reggae featuring some icons of the genre, all the way to the famous stages of Arcadia taking over London’s Olympic Park and everything in between, hitting the marks of disco, techno, live music and more. Lost & Found Festival
Thursday 3rd - Sunday 6th May
St Paul’s Bay, Malta

If you’re looking some near-certain sun, then flying out to Malta is definitely an option for the Annie Mac curated Lost & Found Festival. With the main festival spread across some of the city’s best venues - as well as boat parties, a castle rave, pool parties and a very special beach party - and a lineup that hosts some of the biggest names across the electronic music world as well as within pop, rap, grime, hip hop and so much more, it’s more than a holiday. We’re talking the likes of Jackmaster, Stefflon Don, Denis Sulta, Patrick Topping, Eats Everything, J Hus, Diplo, Jamie xx, Novelist, My Nu Leng and more - not to mention the more than equipped master, Annie Mac herself.


Reggae Loves Manchester Festival
Friday 4th May
Victoria Warehouse, Manchester

For fans of the Jamaican born genre, this all night long celebration of reggae promises a transportation straight to Kingston. Featuring Tarrus Riley, a reggae don known to tour on an international scale annually, who’ll now bring his Island sounds to Manchester’s brand new summer sizzler. He’ll be joined by noughties legend Cham, Jahmiel, Nesbeth and more with the inclusion of some Caribbean inspired food and danceable beats into the early morn’.  

‘A History of House music’ Talk + DJ Set with Bill Brewster

Sheaf St, Leeds

Fancy an education as well as a schooling in some incredible house sounds? Sheaf St have you sorted as they invite Grimsby DJ Bill Brewster for not only for a set comprising of the best in old school house as well as funk, soul, hip hop and more, but also a talk on the history of house that’s bound to engage. Whether he’s spinning at Fabric, soundtracking somewhere in Ibiza or writing books with long-time collaborator Frank Broughton - Brewster excels in everything he touches.

As the name suggests, Glitterbox is going to be a shimmering modern day disco affair with some of the most extravagant performers and some incredible DJs in the stunning setting of Manchester’s Albert Hall. Joey Negro is just one of many acts offering their talents on this bank holiday blinder, alongside the likes of Todd Terry, Purple Disco Machine, Melvo Baptiste and more.

The Garden Party: Part One

Canal Mills, Leeds

You won’t need to hope for good weather when there’s a lineup this hot heading for Leeds. The first in a series of three completely unparalleled events, The Garden Party will be hosting multiple stages. The first, which called The Hangar, will offer an outdoor party with sets from Jackmaster, Jeremy Underground, Axel Boman and more, while the main room will be bringing in Patrick Topping, Richy Ahmed, Eli Brown and more and an intimate room will have Limit, Kontra and Patchwork.

They say third time's a charm and so for three years running, the one and only Ricardo Villalobos will be taking to the terrace to host one of his extensive 15 hour parties to the people of Leeds. He’ll be going b2b with Raresh for five hours, and the likes of Sonja Moonear, Rich NxT, Annie Errez and Bobby ODonnell for the ultimate summer party.

Defected Liverpool - Franky Rizardo, Josh Butler & Low Steppa

Arts Club, Liverpool

A house music label with a household name reputation - Defected take to a city that knows how to party. Liverpool’s Arts Club will host Franky Rizardo as well as Josh Butler and Low Steppa for not only a showcase of the imprints’ best on offer, but also a guaranteed non-stop party atmosphere into the small hours of the Monday morning.

The Yarden Party with Orpheu The Wizard

Sheaf St, Leeds

Amsterdam resident Orpheu The Wizard makes his Leeds debut this bank holiday, with what promises to be a magical set in Sheaf St - well, he’s not named the wizard for no reason. Joined by Leeds locals Zoya and Luce, who most of electronic and eclectic music fans in the city will be familiar with, as well as Ninety Nine residents James Bevan, Josh Crozier and Josh Nesbitt, The Yarden Party is going to go off.


NOISY: Jaguar Skills
Friday 4th May
The Nest, London

The Nest brings the first in what promises to be a guargantion series of Friday nights, that kicks off with a headline set from the wonderful Jaguar Skills. With a mixing catalogue that boasts a more than broad list of genres, from dubstep and drum and bass all the way to hip hop and house, you can expect an assorted soundtrack on this induction to the longer weekend.

Fridays at EGG: Lost Frequencies
Friday 4th May
EGG, London

Felix De Laet, better known by his DJ and producer alias Lost Frequencies offers his favourite flavours of house and tropical house to the mighty EGG venue. Having his widely recognisable track ‘Are You With Me’ hit dance floors all over the world and later claim the title as Hit Of The Year, the Belgian artist is sure to pick out some excellent cuts worth moving your feet to.

LWE Presents Cuttin’ Headz: The Martinez Brothers

Old Fountain Studios, London

After seeking and searching for the ideal setting for such a huge double act, LWE have finally found one to match their vision. They’ll be using a never-been-used before location of a disused television studio in Wembley, to host the internationally known Bronx siblings The Martinez Brothers in a completely unique party.

Summer Garden Party: Skream, Route 94 & More

Saturday 5th May
Motion, Bristol

Taking place in a newly developed part of the venue that overlooks the river Avon, Motion welcome experienced and enigmatic selector Skream to their terrace for a party under (hopefully) blue skies for good times and even better vibes. He’ll be joined by Route 94 for a celebration of summer - whether the British weather holds out or not.

Arcadia London 10th Anniversary Festival
