Production maestro and fountain of musical knowledge Sam Shepherd aka Floating Points took to Amoeba Music in Los Angeles this week, selecting some beautiful records for the shop’s “What’s In My Bag” YouTube series. A specialist in jazz, disco and any music with real soul behind it, he picks out LPs from the likes of Pharoah Sanders, Gunter Hampel, Charles Earland and more and has plenty of background knowledge to help explain why.
Also stumbling upon one of his classic selections in Mary Clark’s “Take Me I’m Yours”, the trip to the world’s largest record store is as lucrative as you would expect it to be for a digger as informed as Floating Points, and if you’re looking for some tips on uncovering hidden gems then you could do much worse than to watch the eight minute video.
Floating Points plays Horizon Festival in Andorra this March, with the week long event also featuring artists including Mala, Romare, Ben UFO b2b Midland, KiNK and more. Kicking off on Sunday 26th of March, the festival will run until Sunday 2nd April at its home in Arinsal.
