The celebrations for SubDub’s 18th birthday start on Friday 29th at its traditional home of The West Indian Centre, with Johnny Clarke, Vibronics and Iration Steppas running the show in room 1 and Dispatch Recordings celebrating 15 years in room 2. Next up, Mala, Kahn and Loefah lead a prestigious lineup at the same venue on the Saturday, with Deep Medi also blowing out ten candles after a decade in the game.
If Subdub’s 18th Birthday wasn’t large enough before, the addition of an after party at Old Red Bus Station should see to that. Starting at 10pm on 1st May, the party at Old Red will commence after weekenders have had a much needed chance to regain their energy, offering Overflow Vs Central Beatz as an extra incentive for them to do so. Featuring dub from Iration Steppas, Cheff of Sheffield’s Sinai Soundsystem and Akash, the night will be a saviour for anyone not ready to let the birthday celebrations die down.
Representing Wire’s Overflow night, Audio Active founders SA and Sandy both join the party, the former spinning solo whilst Sandy joins forces with Ionian for a bumping back to back. Rush Records head Transcript unites with Central Beatz’ Mr Joon, whilst the Central Beatz co-founder LD50 will also be given free reign to weave together the group’s signature forward-thinking drum & bass, dubstep and broken beats. Rekah and Harks MC complete the lineup for the final throws of the 18th Birthday celebration.
Make it through to Sunday and the after party will make sure that you’ve had your fair share and more of all things dub, but then what’s more befitting of an institution like Subdub than some wobbly legs on a Monday morning? Birthdays are meant to be big, after all.
