On the 5th of February Funk Soul Nation will return to HiFi in Leeds to bring to their stage one of the most exciting live performers and producers to have blown up over the past year. Although this individual has been making music for over a decade, he was awarded Resident Advisor’s Single Of The Year last year, which has shot him to hotness and given him a cult following. He is Fatima Yamaha.
There may be some people who do not recognise his name; however there won’t be many who haven’t heard his spellbinding single What’s A Girl To Do, which was released on D1 Records back in 2004. Having been reissued on Dekmantel last year however, it was this track that was chosen as RA’s Single Of The Year at the end of 2015. If a synth line can be emotive and truly beautiful, the lead from this single is just that.
Fatima’s other highlights that include Sushi And Baklava, Love Invaders and the whole of the Imaginary Lines LP, which hit the shelves at the end of last year, continue his simple yet powerful instrumentation to create a collection of slo-mo funk gems.
Fatima Yamaha is no semi live performer, as he brings his collection of keyboards, bass synthesisers and drum machines to play with at each gig. After watching his Boiler Room that sees a broadcast of his performance at Dekmantel Festival last year, we really can wait to see him playing around on the keys and that all important Wah lever that gives his sound warbling depth.
Fatima’s summery sound will no doubt remind you of the good times you will have had last year, if not warm you up for some more sunny fun that is soon to come.
