Patterns Festival heads to Oval Space on 11th of March with a first in dance music history - a Funk & Soul set from Metalheadz founder and drum n bass legend Goldie. Selections from Love Kulture Project and live music from Kala will add even more vibes, with Dimensions Soundsystem providing the final instalment in a funk-filled night.
More well-known for an illustrious career at higher tempos, Goldie has chosen this as the day to share the more soulful purchases of his twenty year career. There’s no doubting his skill as a DnB DJ, but how will he fare when turning his attention towards music of a funkier nature? Oval Space and Patterns Festival predict it will yield rich rewards.
Less of an enigma is the set from Love Kulture Project, who are well established as bringers of positive vibes and proper parties despite only having started out back in 2013. Connoisseurs of reggae, dancehall, jungle and dub as well as the funk and soul that characterises the night, the LKP crew will be represented by Leo Samson and Kings Hi-Fi. Their ethos of “Peace, Love, Unity, Respect” is one we can all get behind as we join them on the dancefloor.
London duo Kala will add live performance to the evening’s list of affairs, showing off the striking vocal talents of Emer Dineen and her musical accomplice Michael Crean. The pair blend electronic production with jazz instrumentation and beautiful vocal performance in their productions and live shows, earning the attention of Bristol’s Stamp the Wax and their peers in the capital. With the residents of Dimensions festival forming the icing on the cake, this one is a genuinely intriguing and exciting night.
