There are a busy few months ahead for Manchester’s Hidden, the creative venue which was named Best Club at the 2015 City Life Awards, with a barrage of big shows taking place in March and April. Here’s a rundown on the events you’ll not want to miss.
18 March: Transmission Funk X Flow Motion w/Artwork, Tristan da Cunha + more
Bringing together Artwork and Tristan da Cunha, Transmission Funk and Flow Motion will set the stage for two huge figures in British dance music on March 18th. One third of dubstep pioneer supergroup Magnetic Man, Artwork is an esteemed DJ as well as being regarded alongside fellow Magnetic men Skream and Benga as the originators of the London dubstep phenomenon. Perhaps less famous, but certainly no less important, Tristan da Cunha should be well known to Leeds residents, having held a residency at Back To Basics and founded former cult favourite club The Garage. Those before now unfamiliar with his name will surely be familiar with his work, and that should be enough to convince that this night is set to be a big one.
19 March: Love Dose x Hiddenevents with Culoe de Song and Maurice Fulton
Three continents are represented as Love Dose x Hiddenevents take on America’s Maurice Fulton, South Africa’s Culoe De Song and our very own Josimar for an acid tinged house affair.
24 March: You & Me Present Phil Weeks & The Mekanism!
You & Me serve up house legend Phil Weeks and French groover The Mekanism. Blue Room will be hosted by Leeds party SetOneTwenty, offering a sample of the goods that took them from house parties to putting on the likes of Seth Troxler, Omar S, HNNY and Mr. G.
25 March: hiddenevents x house of wax - Young Marco, Fort Romeau + More
Young Marco and Fort Romeau head over to Manchester for this House of Wax show, with Rug Dug and Disco Mums also offering their talents.
26 March: The Hidden 90's Hip Hop Party
The specifics of this one are still a secret, but hip hop from about twenty five years ago looks quite likely to play its part.
2 April: hiddenevents - Enzo Siragusa, Eli Verveine + More
London institution FUSE is known for offering a Sunday after party for those not quite ready to let the weekend peter out. Over in Manchester, founder Enzo Siragusa takes over a slightly earlier shift, as he leads proceedings on Saturday the 2nd of April alongside Eli Verveine.
8 April: Rhythm Section & Ruf Kutz present Pender Street Steppers
Bradley Zero’s Rhythm Section join forces with Rug Kutz to organise two rooms of high quality tunes. Pender Street Steppers take charge of one whilst Bradley and Ruf Dug invite Contours and Hidden Spheres to run the other. Woozy house and hands in the air disco look likely to be the specials of the day.
14 April: Red Bull Studios presents Monki & friends
Radio 1’s Monki brings friends with her for an evening of trendy bass music flavours, with Bodhi, Mele and Wookie helping make sure that all runs smoothly.
15 April: fourthirtytwo (Richy Ahmed All Night Long)
Hot Creations’ Richy Ahmed takes a night off from Ibiza to do the same thing he does most nights, this time at Manchester’s Hidden. He’ll be going all night long, which sounds like a recipe for chaos.
22 April: The Manchester Soul Train
As if funk, soul, disco and Motown classics weren’t enough, this one also offers dancers, visuals, dance offs and make up artists for an all-encompassing groovy night.
23 April: MCR x Subplot - We Call It Techno with Alberto Ruiz
Techno from Alberto Ruiz, Paul Jamez, Crossfield and a still unnamed special guest.
29 April: Hiddenevents x Lo-Fi - DVS1, Tama Sumo + More
If DVS1 and Tama Sumo were to combine their personal record collections, they’d have over 45,000 records. Music people to the core, their extraordinary knowledge is derived from decades of immersion in the world of dance, and Hidden will welcome them both to Manchester at the end of April. Playing various shades of techno, house and whatever else they bring with them from their musical libraries, they’ll give you access to tunes that you’ve never heard before and might never hear again. The chance to see these two colosses of electronic music is nigh on unmissable.
30 April: Hiddenevents x Träume - Nick Höppner, Axel Boman + More
With Tama Sumo and DVS1 sharing duties on the Friday shift, I feel sorry for whoever has to follow them on the Saturday. Not an enviable task… who’s going to be able to fill those shoes?
What’s that you say? Berghain elder Nick Höppner & talismanic Swede Axel Boman? Oh. Well, I guess that solves that problem. Moving on.
29 May: The Hidden Forrest Bank Holiday Sunday Party
The 12 hour party will start the afternoon and go well into the night with an extended set from Cabanne and support form Anton Fitz, Paul Kaminski, Martin Loose Cut, Hiddem DJs, DJ Slug and many more.
