UK hip hop collective High Focus sent forward a representative for the most recent instalment of Fire In The Booth, with young prodigy Ocean Wisdom heading into the studio for another flaming encounter. Starting off with a rowdy three minutes, the Brighton boy adopts blistering pace as he seamlessly raps in double time over a broken grime beat, slowing things down for part two with a deeper, more jazzy backing more identifiable with the impressive High Focus aesthetic.
Third up and it’s “one for the haters”, with Wisdom returning to the aggressive pace that he’d started on as he sharpens his tongue for a last assault, maintaining a choking flow for a seemingly impossible stretch as he leaves things feeling “a bit lary”, provoking the onslaught of vocal and fx board explosions that we’ve come to expect from resident pyromaniac Charlie Sloth. A genuine star of the British hip hop scene, the assured performance is conclusive proof that the High Focus scouts are still churning out some of the best MCs around, making the upcoming block party at Bristol’s Lakota all the more enticing.
