Tech house and concept albums might not be the most natural of pairs, but Hot Since 82’s new project will look to change that as the Leeds-based DJ brings his new 8-track series out on his Knee Deep In Sound imprint. Stepping up for the first instalment, Cristoph makes his debut on the label with an album that strides between house and techno with little regard for established boundaries. First single “Perplexity” features tight grooves, dubby chords and an eerie vocal loop, making it a perfect tool for a DJ transitioning into the darker reaches of the night.
Speaking to deephouseamsterdam.com about the new project, Hot Since 82 argued that 8-track will provide artists with a much-needed chance “to fully explore their sound.” The aim is to allow a select few of his favourite artists to “exhibit their production skills, create a mini masterpiece and take the listener on an all encompassing journey into their musical mind.”
So why was it Newcastle’s Cristoph chosen to have the honour of kicking off this latest campaign? “Cristoph is an artist I truly believe in, he’s been quietly working away, making absolute monsters in the studio over the past couple years and it felt only right for him to launch this new concept.”
8-tracks volume 1 is on the way this October.
