After their sell out party in August that saw Chicago house legend Marshall Jefferson take to The Warehouse in Leeds, Shine are back to celebrate their 3rd birthday on Saturday the 1st of November with none other that X-Press 2 headlining the affair.
In a time when Chicago, Detroit and New York were influencing tens of thousands of people in the UK to gather in warehouses at illegal raves, house and techno music rose to fame and it is this early sound that Shine intends on keeping alive through their one off events in Leeds, at one of the cities most iconic night clubs, The Warehouse. For their third birthday celebration Shine have recruited the talents of X-Press 2, the house music duo who have created classic tracks throughout their whole career, be it all time favourites like ‘Lazy’ to modern chart stormers like ‘Smoke Machine’ and ‘Give It’.
First surfacing in the early 90’s with the dance floor gem Muzik Xpress, X-Press 2 quickly rose to prominence in the underground; also known for their DJ sets that utilized, wait for it, twelve decks between the three original members. Through the 90’s and early naughties, they had huge hits with ‘The Sound’ and ‘Lazy’, which featured vocals from The Talking Heads lead singer David Byrne. After Ashley Beedle left in 2009 to pursue a solo career the two Darren’s continued their efforts to be met with further success and still regularly play around the UK.
Joining X-Press 2 will be a number of iconic DJs that include the duo Heller & Farley, consisting of Terry Farley from Boy’s Own and Pete Heller. Together they have released a number of popular tracks and have also has chart success on their solo paths. Also set to the feature for the celebrations are Justin Robertson, Jim Shaft Ryan and a return visit for CJ Mackintoish - be sure to check out Mackintosh's mix from the Shine 2nd Birthday last year and grab a ticket whilst you still can (early bird and 1st releases tickets now sold out, 2nd release on sale now).
