It’s mid July and the Ibiza Rocks Hotel is in full session hosting some of the biggest parties on the white isle. With a varied selection of DJs and bands on show, not to mention regular appearances from Stormzy, the first half of the summer season has already conjured up some pretty special memories. With performances from the likes of Dizzee Rascal, David Rodigan, Wolf Alice, Hannah Wants and Tinie Tempah still to come, things show no sign of slowing down at Ibiza Rocks. With so much to take in, we’ve put together a little recap of what’s been going down so far this season.
#Merky Opening with Stormzy & Charlie Sloth
Stormzy will be making himself comfortable at Ibiza Rocks this summer, returning each month for his #MERKY residency along with a hand picked selection of guests. Things got under way back in June with Stormzy turning up the heat on the opening night of the series alongside 1xtra’s bass connoisseur Charlie Sloth. Expect a similar amount of fire when #Merky returns in August and September.
Ibiza Rocks opening with Slaves & Rat Boy
Ibiza Rocks has always been on hand to offer up a slightly different Ibiza experience with their Wednesday night event series. 2016 has been no different with the chaotic sounds of Slaves and Rat boy enlisted to kick things in off in raucous fashion. Slaves delivered a typically sweaty performance while up and coming hipster Rat Boy proved why he has been marked out as one to watch in the coming years.
Few have enjoyed 2016 on the same level as Jack Garratt. Having closed out 2015 by scooping a Brit award, 2016 quickly brought the news that he had taken top spot in the BBC Sound of 2016 poll. Since then, the multi-instrumentalist has been impressing audiences at a range of festivals up and down the UK before heading over to take his place on the Ibiza Rocks stage.
Disco rockers around the world rejoiced when it was revealed that LCD Soundsystem were going to return from their hiatus and give it another go. Often the unsung heroes of the dancefloor, LCD Soundsystem’s blend of disco ball worthy rock saw the New Yorkers ignited the hearts of mid 2000s indies. With their comeback tour already providing memorable performances at Glastonbury, Ibiza Rocks was next in line for some LCD treatment courtesy of James Murphy and co. Always the epitome of euphoria when All My Friends makes an appearance in their sets. A truly memorable moment from Ibiza Rocks 2016.
