ANTS' parties have been the talk of Ibiza for the past few years, with regular get togethers becoming one of the most popular events to take place at Ushuaia. Following three years of successful events featuring a who’s who of leading DJs, ANTS has grown a pair of wings and now looks to spread its dancefloor influence worldwide. One city they have their eye on is Manchester, where ANTS takes to The Albert Hall on Friday February 5th.
The Manchester leg will welcome the party’s spearhead Andrea Oliva, who has quickly become renowned as one of Switzerland’s hottest dance music exports. Joining Oliva in Manchester will be Maya Jane Coles, Saved Records lynchpin Nic Fanciulli and VIVa Warriors head honcho Steve Lawler.
The London leg of ANTS UK tour will take place on February 27th, with Electric Brixton providing the backdrop.
With the colony set to grow as it makes its way across the UK this February, we caught up with resident party starter Andrea Oliva to talk all things ANTS:
Hi Andrea, how are you today?
I’m very good thanks
You’ve just got back from another year at BPM in Mexico. How was it this year?
It may have been said many times, but it really gets better and better every year. I had a lot of fun playing some great shows.
The ANTS parties have been holding home at Ushuaia since 2013. Memories might be a little hazy by now I’m sure, but how did the first season of parties come about?
ANTS was always about being a playground for the future where musical visions are combined with production to develop a proper underground yet fun party. The combination of the music and the show is an experience and that's also the reason why it’s growing so fast.
Although a number of parties in Ibiza tend to move round the island every year, there are some that stick to their guns, with ANTS being one of these. Why is Ushuaia so right for ANTS?
Never change a winning team and never forget where you came from. It all started there and I can’t imagine it being in anywhere else – Ushuaia is just perfect!
Will the party be returning to Ushuaia this summer?
Of course and I hope for many more years to come also
Back to ANTS, the party will be jetting over to the UK in the coming months. What’s your aim here?
The British scene is one of the best in the world. It's a pleasure to be able to play with the brand there and I personally am lucky to gain more and more English support as a result. I love playing in the UK.
You will be playing alongside a number of great British DJs including Maya Jane Coles, Nic Fanciulli and Steve Lawler. Was it intentional to have a bill of solely British DJs on these tour dates?
Well both Maya and Nic have also been playing at ANTS since the very beginning and adding people like Steve to the line up is the cherry on top. It just fits very well in stunning venues like the Albert Hall.
Will there be any more ANTS parties in Britain anytime soon?
Sure! We will be in London at the end of February and we will be back at Creamfields again in the summer also - plus there are some others to be announced J Its all very exciting for us.
Looking toward your music, do you have any new stuff you will be road testing at these UK gigs?
I have a lot of new music coming up. There is a collab I did with Livio & Roby which is going to be released on their album, and I have another new track which is going to be on Desolat at some point this year. But I´m really looking forward to playing new releases from different producers also - there is a lot of amazing music out there.
Thanks Andrea, we hope you have a great time bringing ANTS to the UK!
Thank you so much.
