After an incredible performance at their New Year’s Eve Party, Enzo Siragusa returns to Sankeys Manchester this coming Saturday (1st March) alongside the FUSE cohort including Seb Zito, Rich NxT, Rossoka, Ittetsu and more for a special FUSE showcase.
Ahead of the big night, the folks at Sankeys HQ caught up with the man himself to talk Manchester vs London, FUSE Ibiza, plans for 2014 and more. So Enzo, it's been almost six years since FUSE was born and since then it has gone from strength to strength, building a cult-following of the most loyal fanbase that we can think of. How did the idea of a Sunday afternoon rave come into play and how did the FUSE journey begin?
FUSE originally began as an afterparty for a weekly Saturday night event that we were already running. In fact it was more of an after after party, as we already had an after party that ran from the end of our Saturday night event until about 11am. Then FUSE would kick off at 11am and run all day until Sunday evening. So mainly it was born out of our desire to keep on partying. The rest as they say is history!
The last time you played at Sankeys Manchester was on New Year's Eve for Tribal Sessions. What are your thoughts on the Manchester crowd and how does it compare to your London crowd that you have worked so hard to build?
NYE was amazing really. A cool, young, energetic crowd. It is really good to see Sankeys back in Manchester. There is a vibrant scene up there that needs a home. I played with Butch and Julian Perez, and Julian and I went back to back which was ace. We did it last summer in Ibiza so it was nice to revisit that experience in a new environment. It is hard to compare the crowd in Manchester to London, because London is my home and I'll always have a special relationship with them. But it is brilliant to have the opportunity to take what we do to other places in the UK, and if NYE is anything to go by I'm confident this weekend will be as special!
It can easily be said that FUSE's residency in Ibiza was a big success, with great guest nights such as tINI and the Gang, and also a surprise set coming from Loco Dice. Tell us about your experience on the White Isle.
That is great to hear thanks! The main thing I guess is it is nice to be playing the same venue every week. It has given us a similar experience to London in that we are able to really build a relationship with the crowd, and also giving us the freedom to really dig deep into our record collections. Sankeys have been really supportive which has made the experience really enjoyable for everyone.
FUSE has seen some great releases over the past year, including it's sister label INFUSE (INFUSE 004 is great by the way!). What should we be looking at for in terms of releases in the coming year, and which artists are you currently working with for FUSE's sister label?
The next big thing from myself on Fuse is the Kilimanjaro project that i've been working on with Alexkid. This is exploring the boundaries between the jungle sounds that we were brought up on, and also the dubby house/techno sound of FUSE. As for INFUSE, we will be using this as a platform for excavating some new talent such as Alci, Mariano Mateljan, Ferro, Archie Hamilton and Joe Williams to name a few.
What are your's and FUSE's future plans for 2014 onwards?
For me it's mainly about continuing to do what I love doing which is playing records as often as I can! Obviously we will be retuning to ibiza so we are just working on the plan for the summer now, and we will continue to put out music on both labels that represents the FUSE family.
