Ahead of their set at the Magna Carta presents Lost Records x Resonance Records party at Mint Club on Friday 17th April (alongside Hot Creations Richy Ahmed, Josh Butler, Max Chapman and more) we caught up with Lost Records bosses LEFTWING & KODY.
How’s the spring been so far for you? Have you been busy gigging or have you had a lot of time to dedicate to the studio?
It's been a great start to the year so far. We have got a lot of music done and also been gigging a lot but it’s been a nice balance so far. We also managed to get another loop pack done for Loopmasters which should be available soon.
You are the founders of the record label Lost Records. Can you tell us a bit about how you got the label off the ground and what have been your favourite releases?
We had always wanted our own label, it’s been something we talked about for a few years. When we were in a strong enough position financially we decided to give it a go. We didn’t think it was going to escalate as quickly as it has but we have put a lot of hard work into it and are really proud of where it’s at today.
A few of the favourite releases have been the first PAWSA EP, which was Pilot. That track was a part of our sets for a long time. The Cera Alba release is another favourite. The Void EP was a debut for both Cera & Chritian Nielsen who was on the remix. And finally the Temperature EP from Max Chapamn and Kieran Andrews was excellent. Temperature was a great success last summer.
Are there any exciting Lost releases in the pipeline you can tell us about?
We are releasing the second LEFTWING & KODY EP on Lost in May. The One Nation EP has three originals from us and a remix by Luca Cazal which has been well received by the DJs that have had the early promo. We are really excited about that coming out as all the tracks have been working really well.
We also have the first Lost records compilation which will be out during the summer. There are some great names involved in that release, some well known and some up and comers.
You will be teaming up with Resonance Records for the upcoming party in Leeds. Who’s behind this label and have you teamed up with them before?
Resonance is Max Chapmans label who has released three EPs on Lost so we have worked together in that sense. We will also be releasing some music on Resonance this year so it made sense to collaborate on a party together.
Magna Carta will be hosting both labels at the party at Mint Club in the coming weeks. You’ve just been announced to be a resident for them out in Ibiza this year? Is this your first Ibiza residency?
Yes it is and we are over excited about it! Magna Carta is a great promotion and Sankeys is becoming one of the best clubs on the island so it’s great to be a part of both brands.
You put a little snippet up of a new track you’ve been working on that will be getting its first play in Leeds on April 17th. Have you been sending this off to any labels yet or is it literally fresh out of the musical oven?
No that hasn’t been sent to anyone yet. We finished that track yesterday so it is totally fresh and we are looking forward to road testing it on the 17th at Mint Club!
The summer beckons and obviously this will be a busy period with all the festivals that are coming our way. Is there anything your particularly excited for in the coming months?
Ibiza is at the forefront of our minds to be honest we have been working on some music especially to play out there and also have been investigating adding some live elements to our set that we will hopefully be able to showcase in Ibiza.
And finally, what can we expect from you at Magna Carta’s Lost x Resonance party at Mint Club in Leeds on the 17th of April?
Expect us to make you dance!
