Jurassic 5 have been around since the early 90s and have arguably brought us some of hip-hops greatest music. From the debut single Unified Rebelution to What’s Golden from their 2002 album Power In Numbers, Jurassic 5 are no where near short of classics that have gone down in the hip-hop history books.
Not least for putting out their first 2 releases on their own independent album, Jurassic 5 have worked hard to get where they are and have fabricated their music through sampling some of the greatest music artists ever. Led Zeppelin, Quincy Jones, James Brown and Ramsey Lewis are just some of the musicians Jurassic 5 have sampled throughout their 4 studio albums, 2 of which have received silver discs and one, their debut, a gold.
DJ Nu Mark, Akil Zaakir, Marc 7, Chali 2na and Cut Chemist are the 6 faces that make up Jurassic 5, however they have collaborated with the likes of Mos Def and Brick & Lace on their more recent material. Hailing from Los Angeles they rarely perform in the UK, however this summer they announced a tour that will be spread throughout the coming months. The first show at Manchester’s Albert Hall was the first date on this tour that will be visiting only a select few venues around the country, with the group descending on Birmingham on September 8th to play at The Institute.
