Manchester’s La Discotheque is living up to its name with a disco-fuelled session on Saturday 12 November, unveiling a new room in the Bell Tower as a whole host of disco-deploying artists join across the two rooms of The Albert Hall. Seeing as Jocelyn Brown, Norman Jay, Crazy P and Horse Meat Disco will all be appearing in the main room it’s certain to be a flamboyant affair.
Promising ‘giant disco balls, glitter cannons and dance podiums’, Luv Dancin will host a finely decorated main room, with El Diablo’s Social Club in command of the new dance space in the VIP bell tower. Calling on guests to wear their most vibrant clothing, come head to toe in glitter and to whip up a real party atmosphere, La Discotheque are determined to run the most fun party in town. Bringing over Jocelyn Brown, the voice of many a disco banger, can’t hurt that cause, with the huge voiced American performing a live set as the night’s leading lady. Having guested on many of disco’s most cherished records and also been responsible for “Somebody Else’s Guy”, we think there’s a pretty good chance you’ll recognise her.
Norman Jay MBE is another easily recognisable figure, having been DJing in the public eye for three decades and more, receiving his MBE title for services to music along the way. A house DJ with funk and soul leanings, Jay is often believed to have coined the phrase “rare groove”, and has an excellent knowledge of vintage gems from the days before digital. He’ll be accompanied by a funky looking selection, with Nottingham deep house/funk/disco etc band Crazy P, Italo-Disco fanatics Horse Meat Disco and Leeds’ PBR Streetgang all in support.
Over in El Diablo’s territory, Andi Handley, Dave Walker and Hustle DJs will ensure that nobody can escape the disco... but then with a lineup this good why would you want to?
