Late May Bank Holiday Events Guide | Gigs, club nights, terrace parties and beyond...

After an early May Bank Holiday that saw some incredible live events, festivals, club nights and more take hold all over the country, we are lucky enough to be welcoming in another bank holiday weekend at the end of this month. Once again weekend long raves, outdoor festivals and plenty of live gigs will grip the nation and be at your fingertips; the only thing left is to decide which ones you’re going to go to.

As the summer months take hold, festivals are beginning to set up shop in the countries greenest pastures and most interesting cultural locations, with this bank holiday weekend welcoming in some of the first of this year. The first of these is Moda Records’ Lost Village Festival which will be running throughout the weekend in Lincolnshire, featuring Hot Creations boss Jamie Jones alongside a line up curated by Jaymo & Andy George featuring more underground greats such as DJ KozeFour Tet and Ben Pearce. Located in an as of yet unannounced deserted village, Lincolnshire’s newest festival will be an intimate world of hedonism for many.

Common People sees it's inaugural festiva take over Southampton Common with Fatboy Slim, De La Soul, Grace Jones, Clean Bandit, Dusky, Huxley, Jaguar Skills, Waze & Odyssey, Dense & Pika, Jaws, Pale Seas, Band Of Skulls, Years & Years and more all featuring.

For those looking for something a little more short and sweet, the capital will be overflowing with excitement as A Tribe Called Quest’s Phife Dawg will grace Plan B with an appearance, whilst XOYO will host the live dance duo dOP on Friday, with Bodhi, Cera Alba and more in support as well as welcoming Benji B, Maurice Fulton and Leon Vynehall on Saturday. Also taking a grasp on London will be Seven Davis Jr, a promising young house star who will be appearing at The Nest alongside Andrew Ashong and Alexander Nut.

At Fire, Love LDN will take to present The Adana Twins, whilst at the other side of the club, Subsoul will host the Lightbox and play host to TCTS, GotSome and more. As always, Egg will also be bringing in some serious talent as Marc Romboy, Dubspeeka and Metodi Hristov provide bouncy tech house vibes on Saturday, before Sunday parties rock the city the following day with Eton Messy hosting XOYO, DJ Pierre and 808 State providing acid house styling at Egg and a 19 year anniversary party for Drum & Bass Arena at Heaven, with one of the biggest multi room line ups you will have seen in a while.

The North

As always, Leeds will be the second city for bank holiday action as the Mint Warehouse terrace (pictured below) will be up and running once again after a sterling afternoon at the beginning of the month. Here, System play host to one of the most spectacular line ups the city has seen in a while, with Perlon head honcho Zip headlining with tINI and Mr G. This will no doubt be a highlight of the year in Leeds’ clubbing calendar. Mint Warehouse will also be rocking on Friday when No Way Back launches with disco legend Dimitri From Paris and Horsemeat Disco, whilst The Garden Party returns to The Faversham on the Sunday.

Mint Warehouse

After a three day long party during early may bank holiday, The Iration Steppas Sound System will move to Wire for a SUBDUB special, also welcoming Exodus, Kenny Knots and Dan Man, before rock music grips the city centre for Slam Dunk Festival, a multi venue day and night with headliners You Me At Six playing alongside Taking Back Sunday, Don Brocco, Architects and loads more throughout the day. Looking back to wards electronic music, The Warehouse will also be more than lively as The Tidy Boys bring their hard house sound to Leeds to celebrate 20 years of hard house classics, with the likes of BK, Rob Tissera, Anne Savage and more joining the boys themselves on Sunday whilst Pete Tong is joined by Patrick Topping and more on Saturday for All Gone Pete Tong. Back to live music and Chas & Dave will bring their musical comedy to the O2 Academy on Sunday, amongst much more in the city.

Looking towards Manchester, Phife Dawg of A Tribe Called Quest will also be stopping here after his London date on Friday, ready to perform classics and his own solo material at Sound Control.

Rest Of The UK

If you won’t be able to make it to any of these destinations over May Bank Holiday weekend, do not fear, as there will also be plenty on things to do elsewhere.

Those in the midlands will be more than catered for through the exciting paint throwing celebration Colour Festival, Inspired by the Indian festival Holi, DJs incuding DJ Fresh, Tough Love and Shift K3y will play to huge crowds whilst they throw paint in the air to celebrate the coming of Spring. Edinburgh will also be alive with electronic sounds as Kerri Chandler and Dusky play at Nightvision’s Closing Party, whilst Bristol will be welcoming Michael Calfan, Axel Boy and Karl Thomas to The Syndicate.
