Rap collective A Tribe Called Quest have recently hinted heavily at their breakup. Hailing from New York, A Tribe Called Quest began in 1988 and have since released a string of seminal records before taking a five year hiatus. Their 90s hip hop included track such as ‘Can I Kick It?’ which sampled Lou Reed’s ‘Walk On the Wild Side’ and marked the group as hip hop icons of their generation. It was at recent shows in Los Angeles and New York that Q-Tip announced to the audience that it would be their last shows in those cities as their current incarnation, “This is our last show here in New York, that’s it - as Tribe” he is reported to have said before paying tribute to late member Phife Dawg on stage in their hometown.
With only four remaining live dates in the world, A Tribe Called Quest’s last ever performance will be at this year’s Bestival, taking place in Dorset from Friday, September 7th until Sunday 11th.
