Senegalese pop sensation Akon will oversee a night of the temperature raising RnB when he plays Leeds’ O2 Academy on Wednesday 25th October, with Konvict Kartel helping out. Far naughtier than your standard Wednesday night, the visit from the “Lonely” and “Smack That” singer will be a memorable one for fans of late noughties chart slammers.
Akon’s entrance onto the mainstream stage came with debut album Trouble in 2004, when he found himself at number 1 in the UK charts and quickly the owner of a double platinum record. Following it up two years later with the Konvicted, an LP that included chart-topping singles like “Smack That”, “I Wanna Love You” and “Don’t Matter”, Akon was established as one of the most exciting artists that RnB had to offer by 2007, and a series of high-profile collaborations only cemented his place as a genuine A-lister. Still at the top of his game despite having devoted plenty of time towards charitable projects in recent years, he’ll be ready for the big midweek show when it gets underway in late October.
