With over 200 entries and only twelve albums chosen, the Mercury Music Prize shortlist is aimed to represent the best of British and Irish music from the past year and this year proves to be a rather good and representative list. Covering the recently revived British rock scene, such as the beloved british indie rock band The 1975, as well as the current London-based rap movement, such as new up and coming rapper Slowthai.
