Hip-hop trio De La Soul are the latest act to be added to the lineup for House Of Common, joining David Rodigan and festival hosts Madness on the bill. Heading into its second year, House Of Common Festival takes place at Clapham Common, London, on Monday 28th August, and brings a family friendly atmosphere to the capital’s carnival bank holiday weekend.
House Of Common tickets are on sale now.
Still going strong almost three decades since the release of their first record, De La Soul will arrive at House Of Common with bags of microphone expertise and a back catalogue to match. The upbeat New Yorkers set the tone for hip-hop in the late 80s following the release of Three Feet High And Raising, offering nuanced expression, jovial wordplay and deft jazz samples that intensified the group’s abstract style.
Their light and breezy creations drifted over into the 90s, inspiring and breathing life into emerging groups such as A Tribe Called Quest and The Pharcyde. 27 years down the line and still receiving Grammy nominations, De La Soul are a true tour de force of positive hip-hop, and fitting addition to House Of Common.
