Dubstep may not be the force that it was five years ago, but a night with the Deep Medi team is still going to be a big event in any city’s calendar, as it will be for Leeds on Saturday 7th October. Stepping into Wire for a low frequency room shaker of a night, the Deep Medi label will be represented by a quartet of talent in Egoless live, Kahn, Orson and Silkie.
Croatian producer Egoless has made himself a specialist in dub and roots influenced production, with weighty bass tones balanced by the atmospheric soundscapes that he charts in his hardware explorations. With his interest in music born from soundsystem culture, Egoless deals in the kind of music that you feel first, with half-time skank jams strolling languidly through the night.
Bristolian Kahn takes a similarly powerful approach to his music, but often with a far more aggressive demeanour aimed squarely at the dancefloor. A favourite on labels like Bandulu, Idle Hands, and Punch Drunk as well as Deep Medi, he’s a huge name in the field, and with Orson and Silkie supporting he will be playing his part in what is shaping up to be a memorable return to dubstep culture for the familiar Wire basement.
