There’s no room for the fainthearted at Wire on Saturday 10th February, with an electro-heavy night showcasing DJ Stingray 313, Silicon Scally aka Carl Finlow and Dimensions Soundsystem. Sure to head straight for the jugular, the fierce array of TR-808 influenced sounds will make for a thumping party.
As ruthless as DJs come, Detroit legend DJ Stingray takes the hardest electro and breakbeat he can find and chucks them together at high speed, entertaining himself and his crowd with the almost impossible energy of his mixing. Donning a famous balaclava given to him by one of the original Motor City electro pioneers, Drexciya’s James Stinson, Stingray has become a late blooming pillar of the underground dance scene in Europe, demonstrating his homeschooled take on the resurgent sounds pushed by Objekt and Helena Hauff. Suddenly taking up position as one of the most in demand DJs around, he has found himself in the biggest party spots going each and every week, cutting surgically between records that nobody knows but suddenly everyone wants.
UK techno and electro alchemist Carl Finlow offers a similar brand of twisted melodies, machine rhythms and schizophrenic sounds, and having cut his teeth in Leeds during the 90s he’s well placed to shape proceedings in the depths of Wire. A producer whose incredible workrate defies time, Finlow is a master of musical sci-fi, and a perfect compliment to his Detroit counterpart.
Dimensions Festival’s resident team Dimensions Soundsystem and Alex T add further weight to the powerful bill, and it’s worth taking the time to catch your breath now, because once Stingray gets going you won’t have time to do it again.
