Pioneering funk band George Clinton & Parliament-Funkadelic will play shows in Leeds and Manchester this coming spring. The pair of shows will kick off at Leeds’ O2 Academy on Thursday 11th May, with Clinton and co. moving to Manchester’s O2 Ritz the next day on Friday 12th May.
Bringing together a unique fusion of funk, soul and rock that has become widely known as P-Funk, George Clinton’s band have been honing their craft for over fifty years, with plenty of changes to lineup and their band name since the band’s initial conception in the late 50s. Earning the love of fans from across the world thanks to their expert musicianship, engaging personalities and infectious love of imagination, Parliament and Funkadelic united around lead singer George Clinton and his “Dr. Seussian” approach to writing. Using his music like a creative writing exercise, Clinton was able to find an outlet for a plethora of ideas, characters and themes in his lyrics, bringing them to life in the band’s artwork and online personas.
A vibrant, colourful and charming group, Clinton and his Parliament-Funkadelic friends are a must-see for any fans of funk and soul, and are as revered now as they were at the peak of their powers a few decades back. Expect the shows at both O2 Academy and O2 Ritz to sell out quickly, this one’s a no-brainer.
