Greg Wilson will be given a whole night to show off the full breadth of his record collection on Friday 26th May, camping out in the stylish confines of Leeds’ Angelica to take part in Tony Hannon’s An Evening With series. Taking to the 300 capacity venue for an intimate exploration of the tracks that influenced his more than forty year long career as a DJ, producer and music commentator.
Considered a major player in the electro scene that popped up in Manchester during the early 80s, Greg Wilson has earned his place in UK dance music history as a musician of diverse tastes and multiple talents, often thought of now as a specialist in disco re-edits. Not only a DJ with accolades to his name that include being the first British artist to mix live on TV, Wilson has been an active proponent of dance music education, using his website electrofunkroots.co.uk to document the black music scene that laid the foundations for contemporary dance music and clubbing culture. Also head of the popular blog Being A DJ, Wilson’s knowledge and passion for music and its cultural context are respected by all who’ve known him, and so it is no surprise that his stock is so high as a musical tastemaker and selector. Sure to deliver a spectacle of dance music through various decades, his show at Angelica will be a real treat for the lucky few that join him at one of Leeds’ swankiest cocktail bars.
