Five new artists will take to August bank holiday festival House of Common this summer, with Craig Charles, Toddla T, Hackney Colliery Band, The Skatalites and Dawn Penn just announced for the party on Clapham Common. Taking place on Monday 28th August, the festival is the brainchild of ska legends Madness, and will also feature De La Soul and David Rodigan.
Famously the host of cult classic TV show Robot Wars, Craig Charles is now best known as a funk and soul soldier, operating as a deployer of smooth grooves from behind the decks at festivals, club nights and parties on a very regular basis. With all the charisma that you’d expect of someone who made modified hoovers breaking each other with hammers seem exciting, Charles knows just how to entertain an audience, which is exactly why it’s no surprise to see him high on the bill at HofC.
BBC Radio 1 DJ Toddla T is another popular figure who’ll be joining the fun, throwing the weight of his hefty reputation behind the event which rivals the legendary Notting Hill Carnival. A big fan of urban bass music, Toddla T chooses his tracks from an array of the freshest talent around, and is also known for curating his ‘Carnival’ events at various exciting locations. He will be in good company with Hackney Colliery Band, who are praised as one of the best live bands out there, as well as Jamaican legends The Skatalites and Dawn Penn.
