Leeds’ Wire has added yet another sterling night to its autumn offerings, with Joy Orbison and Or:La taking to the booth on Saturday 28th October. Two in form selectors who’ve been commanding presences on the festival circuit of late, the pair will explore murky depths as they power through techno, breaks, dubstep and more on Call Lane.
It seems like an age since Joy Orbison changed the face of UK dubstep with debut single Hyph Mngo, and eight years down the line he’s well established as one of the best producers around. Far from prolific in his releases, Joy O is well known for sitting on releases until they’re absolutely perfect, a habit that has given his musical output extraordinary consistency to match the hype that surrounds each release. An in-demand DJ thanks to his wide-ranging, bass focused sets, Joy O needs little introduction to anyone who knows even a little bit about underground dance music in the UK.
Whilst far newer to the game, Orlagh Dooley aka Or:La shows striking similarities with her Wire accomplice, having also released a debut EP on Hotflush Recordings and found herself championed by label head Scuba. Equally skilled in steering voyages through dark techno, electrifying breakbeat and groovy acid, her DJ sets have been revered as some of the most exciting around recently, setting her up as one of the brightest talents to have sprung up over the last year.
