Kendrick Lamar has marked music history as he’s become the first rapper to claim the prestigious Pulizer Prize. Having last year lost out on a Grammy award for his seminal and innovative creation DAMN to Bruno Mars, the Compton emcee has now been rewarded for the 2017 release with a truly unique honour in this win. The Pulitzer Award panel described DAMN as “a virtuosic song collection unified by its vernacular authenticity and rhythmic dynamism that offers affecting vignettes capturing the complexity of modern African-American life” which triggered their decision to give Lamar the title. With an extensive track listing and an eclectic collaborator and sampling list, that includes Rihanna and more surprisingly U2, DAMN was a worthy cause for this triumph.
Kendrick will be headlining Leeds Festival this year, which takes place at Bramham Park over August Bank holiday weekend, other acts include Fall Out boy, Panic! At the Disco, Kings Of Leon, Wolf Alice and more.
