A new King Krule track dropped last week, demonstrating a revival of the jazz-stroked melancholia that he has made his signature sound. After four years without a release following debut album 6 Feet Beneath The Moon, “Czech One” marks a long-awaited return to form, and just in time too as he prepares to tour again over the coming months.
Sparsely backed with gentle melodies and ambient sounds, Archy Marshall’s deep, gravelly voice takes centre stage, his dynamic lyricism again showing why he was hailed as a child prodigy under his earlier Zoo Kid persona. Dark and morbid, “Czech One” is a haunting and pensive ballad, indicative of an artist finding himself approaching his poetic prime.
King Krule plays at Bristol’s In:Motion on Monday 20th November, at the smaller Motion venue The Marble Factory. Tickets are expected to sell out quickly.
