Sub:terranea are back in the Wire basement on Saturday 23rd December, bringing in Dial founder Lawrence for a rare Leeds appearance. A first return to the city in five years, the thoughtful deep house producer will deliver the intricate techno and house concoctions that have made his labels two of the most renowned in underground electronic music.
Former gardener Peter Kersten started Dial at home in Hamburg with close friends Carsten Jost and Turner, quickly turning it into a primary tastemaker for german minimal techno through releases from Pantha Du Prince, Efdemin, and his own Lawrence alias. Prolific as a producer, the Dial boss has made a name out of the lightly illuminated, ornate minimal house that both Dial and Smallville specialise in, with frequent releases coming on the latter label thanks to his dancefloor and armchair friendly style of production.
Proving that techno and house need not be reserved specifically for dark and dingy clubs, Lawrence’s music has crisp, powerful rhythms as well as soft pad soundscapes and beautiful melodic passages, with a clean aesthetic that allows them to grow and evolve whether appearing as part of a record at home or a set in the club. Perfectly crafted to create mesmerising experiences, his time in Wire is likely to be a memorable journey.
