Leeds International Festival 2019 first events revealed

The hype of Leeds International Festival has garnered the attention of people across the country over the past two years, and the wait is finally over for what promises to be even an bigger year for the forward-thinking festival this year as they unveil the first list of stellar events as part of their highly-anticipated third edition this summer in May 2019.

With the mission of growing LIF into the UK’s largest platform for global thinkers, innovators and pioneers to discuss the world of today and our future, ticket buyers can expect to see a wide array of internationally renowned speakers, upcoming acts and creative events that makes this metropolitan festival a truly memorable experience for anyone who can attend.

Below is the full list of events revealed as part of their first announcement:

Daniel Avery: Falling Light
Thursday 2nd May
Venue TBA, Leeds

The electronica artist collaborates with L19 and Flat-e to create a completely immersive installation and experience, combining music and light for a beautiful mix of audio and visual stimulation. Daniel Avery hosts the launch of this unique exhibit on Thursday 2nd May, and you can visit the creation every day of the festival.

All Day Hey! 2019
Friday 3rd May
Everyman Leeds, Leeds

An all-day conference dedicated to the tech world allows an insight and networking opportunity surrounding the fields of technology. From front end developers to designers and beyond, a line-up boasting some of tech’s finest minds

BlaqueXplosion || Celebrating Black culture and the origins of Black sound w/ Frank Bruno MBE, Jermain Jackman and JoJo
Friday 3rd May
L19 Cube @ The Village, Leeds

Exploring and celebrating black culture, LIF invite Frank Bruno MBE in to talk about black mental health as well as music and more with Capital radio presenter JoJo co-hosting. Live musical performances from the likes of The Voice’s Jermain Jackson as well as Iration Steppas.

inner city electronic present Crazy P (live)

As part of Leeds’ incredible multi-venue festival inner city electronic and in collaboration with LIF, Crazy P will be taking on a live set this May - supplying their unique brand of shimmering disco and house to move your feet.

John Cooper Clarke: The Luckiest Guy Alive
Wednesday 8th May
L19 Cube @ The Village, Leeds

One of the most well known and most celebrated poets of our generation, John Cooper Clarke will be delivering his powerful words of social and cultural commentary as he shares brand new material from The Luckiest Guy Alive, joined by special guest poets Toria Garbit and Mike Garry.

What's Eating Reality? 
Wednesday 8th May
Secret Location, Leeds

Mix an unparalleled dining experience with the world of virtual reality and conceptual art as poet Maya Chowdry collaborates with Liverpool-based Foodsketz, a team of culinary artists with a focus on conversation, collaboration and community surrounding food and drink. Delve into this live art, four-course dining experience to explore topics on food sustainability and more. 

What Does it Mean to be Human || A Series

In this series of events, LIF invites various speakers in to discuss and discover the characteristics, biology, emotions and more that make us unequivocally human, delving into what that actually means. Evolutionary biologist Professor Alice Roberts, novelist Matt Haig, Buddhist monk Gelong Thubten and economist Simon Anholt will start a discourse on these deep and often dismissed topics. A list of incredible artists doing completely innovative things in music are invited by LIF and Juicebox to showcase what fantastic things they’re doing with their platform. Acts include conceptual artist Tommy Cash, LA gothic soundscaper Yves Tumor, pioneering queer grime act Karnage Kills as well as Leeds own NikNak.
