Leeds University Union will host two huge shows at Stylus this week, with Manchester grime champion Bugzy Malone and BBC Radio 1 star MistaJam both dropping by for freshers week. Starting off with Malone on Wednesday 20th September, the shows will set the tone perfectly for what Leeds’ student music fans will be hoping will be a busy year at LUU’s gig spaces.
A key player in the so-called “grime revival”, Bugzy Malone has been smashing the UK urban music scene to pieces with his releases, entering the charts at number 4 with latest EP King of the North. With three top ten EPs to his name and an unmistakable sound, Bugzy Malone is as easily recognisable as most of the big London grime MCs, and has become the standard bearer for North England’s scene. Influenced by US hip-hop legend Tupac, his accented delivery has made him a huge name, his Fire In The Booth effort still sitting proud as the most viewed episode in the series.
A tastemaker whose early support contributed to Bugzy Malone’s rapid rise to fame, MistaJam is one of the most influential DJs in the UK at the moment, specialising in hip hop, grime and more. A huge booking for the Union, he’ll be joining the party on Saturday 23rd September.
