It may be ten years since Liverpool was named the European Capital of Culture, but On the Corner Festival is aiming to show that the northern city remains that’s proud of its multicultural roots. The brand new festival is a three day celebration of worldwide sounds, offering live performances from the best in local, national as well and a platform for talent from further afield, with DJs, live acts and more across a broad spectrum of genres and styles all heading to the beloved Baltic Triangle district.
Headlining at a venue that’s yet to be announced, the Gilles Peterson-backed collective Vels Trio will be giving a very special performance on Friday 27th April as they take on the classic Madlib album ‘Shades of Blue’. Also headed to the weekend festival will be Fatima and the Eglo Live Band, who will be playing their in-demand soul-tinted RnB sounds, while DJ up and comer MAFALDA will be spinning some melodic soul. Jazz from saxophonist Laura Misch is also included, with soulful singing from Yazmin Lacey adding motown twist. With plenty more on offer, On The Corner Festival’s debut is bound to be a special affair.
