A stunning cast including Motor City Drum Ensemble and Kamaal Williams will take to Manchester’s Albert Hall on Sunday 1st April, with Community curating a party sure to strike a chord with fans of disco, afrobeat and jazz.
Stuttgart’s premier purveyor of disco, house, funk and soul needs little introduction, having earned himself a huge reputation after killer sets all across the world. Having made a conscious decision to restrict the number of nights that he plays, Danilo Plessow is something of a rare jewel on the circuit, picking and choosing his slots so that only the very best parties are graced with his deep and diverse selections. Spreading himself between obscure funk and soul, disco anthems in waiting and darker realms of acid and house, Motor City Drum Ensemble is a selector known for working a party into euphoric territory.
Joining MCDE, London jazz genius Kamaal Williams will add his sophisticated touch to the night, having earned his stripes as part of Yussef Kamaal, a Gilles Peterson favourite and Jazz FM’s Best Breakthrough Act of 2017. Co-founder Henry Wu also appears under his solo moniker, demonstrating his own talents as a selector.
Equally exciting on the lineup is the presence of Nigerian-British afrobeat hero Dele Sosimi, along with his full live band. The live PA will demonstrate his Fela Kuti-inspired brand of afrobeat, which is enough to get feet moving on the dancefloor every single time. With Chicago’s Rahaan and Manchester’s own Irfan Rainy completing the bill, Community look to have pulled off a really tight lineup for the Albert Hall spectacle.
