Relaunching with gusto, Leeds’ Sheaf St is ready to lead the city into dancefloor bliss with their new programme of eclectic events. Bringing the likes of Nicky Siano, Gideon, Orpheu The Wizard and more to town for a stint on the brand new pioneer sound system, Sheaf St will be a buzzing hive of energy as the latest season gets underway.
Few names in disco hold more weight than Nicky Siano, the former resident of legendary New York dance haven Studio 54. A world famous club at the epicentre of disco’s peak years, Studio 54 was a cultural hotspot and a place where glamour and hedonism were inextricable. A selector with many timeless party moments under his belt, Siano knows how to get pulses racing with selections that start in disco but branch out into a myriad of alternative underground genres. Once known as one of the very best DJs that the Big Apple had to offer, his legacy among those in the know remains a source of wet-eyed nostalgia. Seeing him return to Sheaf St on Saturday 31st March should be high on the priority list of any discerning fan of disco’s golden age.
Siano isn’t the only Sheaf St booking who holds a place in underground disco folklore, as ensured by the presence of NYC Downlow founder Gideön on Friday 27th April. He’ll be opening up a new event spawned from Sheaf St’s wonderful NYE event, with Midnight channelling the best bits of a house party and the best bits of a club to go full throttle when the clock strikes 12. Offering a Space Cadets theme for the first instalment, Midnight will be led in style as the founder of Glastonbury’s Block9 takes to the decks.
New endeavours are always exciting, but for Sheaf St the returning favourites are just as important, and exciting lineups for the free Friday Residency sessions will be music to the ears of the multi event space regulars. Offering sumptuous tunes to accompany the delicious edibles and drinks on offer at the bar and The Grub and Grog cafe, the likes of Mr C and Foz, Brudenell Groove and Bathtime Sessions’ Zoya and more will maintain the high quality that Sheaf St is already known for.
It goes without saying that the cherished Yarden Party also returns, with Orpheu The Wizard making a Leeds debut on Sunday 6th May. Co-founder of Amsterdam’s Red Light Radio and a magician with his eccentric selections, he’ll whip up a mesmeric set in the wonderful outdoor space, with support from Zoya, Brotherhood’s Luce and the Ninety Nine crew. Other parties to look out for include a Mario Kart Tournament on Friday 23rd March and Sansuke with Airhead and Trim on 13th March.
