It wouldn’t be New Year’s Day in Leeds without a huge Canal Mills warehouse party, so it’s no surprise that the first Mills party of 2018 is a solid looking affair. Somehow squeezing in Skream, Artwork, Midland, Denis Sulta, Hunee and Young Marco all in one night, the spectacle will be a demonstration in cutting edge house music.
The biggest occasions demand the biggest lineups, and when Hunee and Young Marco find themselves in room 2, you know that the lineup must be mountainous. A full decade after leading the dubstep revolution, Skream is still one of the most highly demanded DJs around, whilst fellow Croydon pioneer Artwork has enjoyed a recent resurgence in popularity with his Art’s House shows. Former Leeds resident and ever the crowd pleaser Midland is another whose position on the lineup could easily be headliner, and Glaswegian Denis Sulta could claim the same given the Sub Club-esque reception that he gets with every set regardless of location.
Bringing us back full circle, you’ll struggle to find two DJs better equipped for party sets than Hun Choi aka Hunee and Amsterdam eccentric Young Marco. Seeing either selector in an intimate setting is an increasingly rare privilege, so to catch them in the smaller of Canal Mills’ rooms is an opportunity that almost definitely won’t come around again anytime soon.
