In celebration of the 25th anniversary of Aphex Twin’s seminal album Selected Ambient Works 85-92, Fact Magazine asked Paul White to wax lyrical on the music that changed his life as a teenager back in 1997. Speaking about his experiences after first discovering SAW whilst at BRIT School in London, Danny Brown’s trusted beat provider cited Aphex Twin as his gateway to electronic music, admitting a near-obsessive infatuation with tracks “Xtal” and “Tha” and a penchant for post-party fixes of the album’s ambient soundscapes.
Known as a visionary by electronic musicians and fans across the world, it is no surprise that Richard D. James’ Aphex Twin is a name that commands attention, and White’s ode to his timeless productions is a lovely insight into just how influential Selected Ambient Works 85-92 has been.
